DVD Blue Spring
image
A nice crispy image, far better than what this publisher has used us to. The dark tones on which the movie very amply relies are beautifully renderred.
sound
A nice and dynamic stereo.
subtitles
Good subtitles which go as far as translating the lyrics from the Thee Michelle Gun Elephant songs featured in the soundtracks. This can be a bit confusing for the viewer, and may be have been arranged in a more legible way, with a colour code or by inserting the lyrics in the upper part of the screen. Good nonetheless.
special features
The DVD offers a full-length commentary by
Midnight Eye's main editor Tom Mes, plus an interview with director Toshiaki Toyoda.
menus
Neatly presented, as much for the transparent case as for the DVD menus.
quality/price ration
An affordable edition, respectful of the aesthetic choices of the movie, with interesting extras.
All our thanks to
ArtsMagic USA for providing us with the DVD.
