Abortion, birth control, and unwed cohabitation are social issues rarely associated with 1970's Hong Kong cinema, but Cohabitation not only faces them head on but does so with insight, compassion...and sex! The movie made a star of nineteen-year-old Lin Chen-chi, who exudes the youthful spirit then infusing Hong Kong as it made the transformation from traditional Chinese strictures to an era where sex was no longer a three-letter word. Variety gave Cohabitation the thumbs up, describing it as "Contemporary and intelligent".
